Fording a River

Costa Rica Outward Bound provides wilderness-based adventure experiences for young people age 13 and older, alternative spring break programs, middle/high schools, families, outdoor professionals, scout troops, corporations, faith-based organizations and universities.

Our open enrollment courses are taught in English and are designed primarily for foreign national students. The majority of these students live in the U.S., Canada and Western Europe. However, we do have a growing sector of students from South America, Asia and Oceania.

We do not make any effort to direct students to courses with students of similar ages or backgrounds. Instead, we see diversity as another learning opportunity for students. They must overcome cultural, language and age barriers in order to find common ground and work together effectively as a team.

Costa Rica Outward Bound also provides a wide range of courses and services to connect Costa Ricans – especially youth – to the outdoors. Our areas of focus include: boy scouts, girl guides, high school students and national park employees. These courses are taught in Spanish and range from single-day technical trainings to multi-day wilderness excursions. Many are offered free of charge or at a significant price reduction to support the communities in which we work.
