Course Description
Surf Getaway itineraries may change with weather and water conditions, but here are the basics:
Surfing: Explore some of the best warm-water breaks along the Pacific coast while while learning or improving upon your surf skills. Our surf intensive courses take place in the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Possible surf sites include Manuel Antonio, Playa Hermosa, Jacó (site of the 2009 World Surf ISA Championship), and Boca Damas. While camping at Playa Tulín, you will have the opportunity to assist volunteers at a Sea Turtle Refuge with activities such as night turtle patrols and releasing newly hatched turtles into the ocean (dependent on nesting season).
While not surfing, learn about lunar phases, wave formations and coastal ecology.
Whitewater Rafting: Surf getaway participants may have the opportunity to spend a day rafting on the Sarapiqui, Pacuare or the General river.
Service Project: CRROBS integrates a service element into every course. Surf courses generally include Sea Turtle Conservation projects.
Arrival Information:After arriving at San Jose International Airport you will be met by Outward Bound staff and transferred to our base, located in the rainforest 15 miles east of the Costa Rican capital, San Jose. On base, you will meet your instructors and be outfitted with a backpack and gear to get ready for your adventure. You will eat and sleep on base before departing to begin your course.
