Take your Spanish lessons out of the classroom and into the rainforest! Costa Rica Rainforest Outward Bound School (CRROBS) has partnered with Trinity Valley School to offer an exciting opportunity to learn Spanish in Costa Rica. Put down those books and hike, raft, climb and rappel through Costa Rican rainforests while learning Spanish and about Costa Rican culture.

- March 11, 2011
- Fly to San Jose, Costa Rica. Meet your Outward Bound Instructors. Transfer to CRROBS base camp at Tres Rios for a brief, late night orientation.
- March 12, 2011
- Morning transfer to the trekking area in which you will begin your hike into the rainforest to Piedras Blancas, a remote village reachable only by foot. A Costa Rican instructor will accompany your Spanish group through the entire trekking portion of the course. His or her role is to share unique knowledge about the rainforest and Costa Rican culture as well as help teach Spanish while he or she guides you through the rainforest.
- March 13, 2011
- Wake up early and spend the morning hiking to your first homestay in Piedras Blancas. You will participate in your host families' daily activities which may include planting or harvesting traditional foods such as bananas, milking cows or goats, grinding corn, processing sugar cane, and hand-making tortillas. Help the community by performing a service project teaching English to local children or assisting with other needs. Your group will enjoy a traditional home-cooked Costa Rican meal for dinner.
- March 14-15, 2011
- Hike to another home in Piedras Blancas for to enjoy a similar homestay experience.
- March 16, 2011
- Hike to where you meet up with the river and begin your day rafting the rapids of the Savegre River or an alternate river. You and your group members will need to work as a team to maneuver rapids. You will learn river ecology as well as the principles of hydrology. In the evening, make your way to Manuel Antonio. Spend the night at the CRROBS Manuel Antonio bungalow.
- March 17-18, 2011
- Over the next two days group members will partake in various activities including visiting the famous Manuel Antonio National Park, surfing, boogie boarding, and helping the community with a service project. If time permits, during the transfer back to San Jose the group will stop and do a Canopy Tour. Spend the night at the Tres Rios Base.
- March 19, 2011
- City tour in San Jose. After visiting some cultural sites, test out your bargaining skills in Spanish as you shop for souvenirs. Enjoy a final dinner and closing ceremonies. Spend the night at our Tres Rios Base.
- March 20, 2011
- Time to pack your bags and transfer to the international airport.
