Costa Rica Outward Bound offers educational institutions, corporate groups, social organizations, friends and families the opportunity to design and experience their own Outward Bound experience.
We specialize in wilderness-based experiential education with a focus on physical, mental, academic, team building and leadership challenges.
We enhance the learning experience by linking it with adrenaline-pumping activities such as rainforest expeditions, whitewater rafting, kayaking, SCUBA diving, sailing, surfing, volcano hikes, home stays, trekking and rappelling.
Our highly trained staff works side-by-side with your group’s representatives to ensure the safety and enrichment of course participants as they experience first-hand the wonders of Costa Rica’s wildlife, rivers, beaches, volcanoes and rainforests.

Who attends our Custom Courses?
We have designed Custom Courses for high schools, universities, social organizations, faith-based groups and multinational corporations. Past clients include the University of Alabama, the Colorado School of Mines, the Youth Business Initiative (Washington, DC) and Google (Ann Arbor, MI).
What kinds of activities can I do?
Based on your primary objectives for the trip, we will create a Custom Course to meet your needs, whether it’s language immersion, emphasis on the natural sciences, leadership development or simply a line-up of adventure activities.
When can I schedule a Custom Course?
We run up to 25 Custom Courses in a calendar year. We are quite flexible regarding dates and trip lengths, so we can find the best trip parameters to meet your needs.
Where do course activities take place?
We operate throughout the diverse eco-systems of Costa Rica and the geographies your group will explore depend on the activities you are interested in. We also offer certain activities in parts of Nicaragua and Panama.
How much do Custom Courses cost?
Prices vary depending on the number of group participants and the length of the course. For a 7-day course with 6 to 7 students, the average cost is about $125 per day, per participant. A greater number of participants lowers each participant's cost per day. The cost of the program covers lodging, three meals per day, entry fees and in-country transportation (basically everything other than airfare) and the group leader gets free tuition.
How do I design and book a Custom Course?

To book a course, we require a deposit 60 days prior to the course start date. Full payment is due 30 days prior to the course start date.
