Base and Lopez Update

Lopez Update – Any student who has visited Piedras Blancas has experienced firsthand the power of the Lopez family. They have shaped CRROBS and continue to impact our students by welcoming strangers into their home through the homestays in Piedras Blancas and through their role as instructors. It can get a little confusing to keep track of everyone, so you can use this family tree as a guide. If you would like to send any letters to Piedras Blancas or to any CRROBS instructor, you can mail it to: CRROBS, SJO 829, PO Box 025216, Miami, FL 33102.

We’ll have to update the family tree, since a new Lopez has entered the world (or as they say in Spanish, “dar a luz”, literally translated as “to bring to the light”). Patricia and Felipe Lopez are the proud parents of Maria Fernanda as well as their newest addition, Isabela. Isabela was born on May 16, 2009.

Paved Road – Remember the bumpy road up to base? Well, it has now been paved! On July 28th we were greeted by the smell of tar drying. Some got stuck to the bottom of our shoes, but it’s worth it for the new, smooth ride!

Free Range Chicken – All of our eggs at base are local. How local? Our coop is located on the hill between our bodega (storage shed) and the cocina (kitchen). After constructing a barbed wire fence, our chickens can now wander freely throughout our field. They appeared a little nervous at first, but they soon spread out to enjoy their freedom! The chicken pictured escaped the fenced field and was found walking up the road.
