2010 Summer Instructors
Danny Jiménez will be working on the river, scuba diving, and sea kayaking this summer. Danny´s big news? He recently found out that he will be a father!
You can always hear if our Whitewater Coordinator, Joe Ewing, is nearby, as his banjo hasn´t left his side for the last four months, and he´s even been known to take it on the river. He will be guiding the Pacuare, Sarapiqui, Orosi, and other rivers along with Diego Lopez.
After finishing Water & Wave semester and the recent University of Alabama course to Talamanca, Sean Marr will spend some time teaching English in Mexico before gearing up for a busy summer season.
Angie Marin has been working for the Costa Rican environmental organization Apreflotas. She is excited to get out of the office and work with Girl Scouts this summer.
Orlando Zamora tells us that his most satisfying moment has been working with the indigenous BriBri tribe in Amübri during the recent University of Alabama custom course. Orlando´s son, Carlos Zamora (or Carlitos), will be following his family´s footsteps and joining us this summer. Emma Zamora (Orlando´s daughter) will also get out of the base´s cocina (kitchen) and be working in the field for a few courses this summer.
Diego Chinchilla will be doing a reconnaissance trip with Orlando for our Volcano Exploration courses.
Donna White has been catering & indulging her adventurous side in North Carolina, while waiting to return to us in Costa Rica.
Alex Cook has been working with various custom courses after last fall´s Water & Wave. He is currently traveling with friends and family throughout Costa Rica, and he is gearing up to live at the Manuel Antonio base all summer to instruct surfing.
When not building his house in Piedras Blancas, Santiago Lopez will be working on numerous Multi-Element courses. His wife, Giselle (who is also Danny´s sister), will be joining us again this summer. Many students may have met Santiago´s younger sister, Mañuela, at the Lopez house in Piedras Blancas. She will be also joining her brothers as an instructor.
Two more Leadership alumnae from Fall 2009, will be joining us this summer. Ashley Holka will be leaving her hometown of Las Vegas and Tania Brotto, our favorite Brazilian, will come from São Paulo.
Mauren Granados has been busy the last few months working with many custom courses including Canyon School, SUNY New Paltz, Calvin College, and Journey School.
Dunia Vargas completed building her house in Playa Maderas, Nicaragua. She spends her days surfing, giving massages, and selling handmade jewelry.

Our longtime Surf Coordinator, Carlos Castro, will be back this summer instructing surfing. He´s bring along some friends, such as Tica instructor Tutty.
Our founder and executive director, Jim Rowe, will be busy this summer certifying students in scuba.
Program Associate Scott Brown will spend most of his summer in the office, but he´ll spend at least one course assisting with scuba in Bocas del Toro, Panama.
And that´s still not everyone! We´ll give updates about our base staff and other new instructors (such as Erin, Carola, Marianna, Alexandra, Lisa, and Ana Marie) in the next Canopy Chronicle.
